Dear Partners,
Water is the liquid that makes life on Earth possible. Without it, life can simply not be sustained. At the same time, it can also bring a great deal of hardship – something we don’t often consider, especially when, for most, it is free-flowing.
Did you know that one in three South Africans lack access to safe and reliable drinking water? Collecting water is a task that falls largely on women, as part of ‘keeping house’. The time spent on this chore often means girls do not attend school and women miss out on the opportunity to earn a decent living.
This month we have shone some light on the women of South Africa, as a tribute to the more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of the country’s women’s pass laws.
Topia supports and empowers every woman we encounter – from our office staff, of which 65% are women – to our customers and clients, of which many are owned and run by formidable females.
What can we do to continue to show support towards the women of our country, in our communities, and lives?
- Support local women entrepreneurs
- Read female authors and listen to podcasts by women
- Support a woman’s non-profit
Happy Women’s Month from all of us at Topia.
Stay safe, stay hydrated
